Where do we go from here? with Learning Disability Wales

What is Insight?

Insight is Innovate Trust’s free community app for people with learning disabilities across the UK to communicate with one another. We host over 80 live and in-person activities per week on Insight. It is also a social space for people to share, make friends and be digitally included in an accessible environment.

Where do we go from here?

Since March 2020 we have all been through a lot. “Getting back to normal” is something we hear a lot at the moment. But what is “normal”? For many people with a learning disability, life before the pandemic was far from perfect. Do we all really want to go back to that?

The Learning Disability Wales ‘Where do we go from here?conference was a fantastic day to hear about people’s experiences about moving forward following Covid.

Many organisations got involved in sharing the important work happening to continue to improve services and, ultimately, people’s lives.

Ffion and Richie did us proud by representing Innovate Trust and our safe, accessible social network app, Insight. They both thoroughly enjoyed discussing how the Insight app has benefited its members and went on to encourage individuals and organisations to join. A special zoom interview with some Insight members followed their talk!

What’s next for Insight?

Following the growth of Insight app, our Skills and Wellbeing team has received funding from WCVA to conduct a peer-led evaluation of Insight. Our Insight Investigators project aims to help us understand what our members like about Insight and what we can improve going forward.

Their work will help us develop further and improve Insight. With our support, our peer-led team will direct us to ensure that Insight remains a go-to hub for online activities, resources, and information for people with learning disabilities and their communities.

Thanks to funding from The National Lottery Community Fund Wales, we are currently translating our Insight app. Innovate Trust recognises that the public in Cymru has a right, collectively and individually, to receive a bilingual service from the public institutions and organisations that work in Cymru.

It is important to us that our members can access the app in Cymraeg and English. The translation of our app aligns with our values and aims of inclusivity at Innovate Trust.

Over the past year, we have been engaging with the Welsh Language Commissioners’ office as we work towards becoming a fully bilingual organisation and our Cynnig Cymraeg. If you want to learn more about our current Welsh Language Scheme, you can read about it here.
