Food for Thought

Our Food for Thought sessions support people with learning disabilities to prepare delicious, healthy meals with peers in a welcoming and inclusive environment.

The sessions aim to help improve participants health and wellbeing through healthy eating tips and techniques.

These workshops are made possible thanks to Heart Research UK.

About our Food for Thought workshops

Food for Thought is a 6-week healthy eating workshop course combining learning, discussion and making healthy snacks, and not to forget tasting them too!

The sessions help people with learning disabilities to gain knowledge and tools to prepare and cook nutritious meals for themselves.

Participants are encouraged to taste food they may not have tried before and to expand their food knowledge and palette.

There is a lot of enjoyment in getting involved in preparing the food and encouraging peers to try new things.

To support participants’ overall health, those who sign up for the course are given fitness trackers and encouraged to set goals around the number of daily steps, focusing on their physical health as well as digestive health.

Workshops also cover the topic of mental health and wellbeing, specific food groups, and alternative plates.

Activity feedback

I found it very useful trying to do the cooking for myself. I even tried some of the recipes at home.
