As part of our new funding from Heart Research UK and in partnership with Skills and Volunteering Cymru (SVC), we planned a full week of activities to celebrate The British Nutrition Foundation’s 10th Healthy Eating Week. We hosted activities through our Insight app and our new internal Digital Platform.
On Monday we ran a healthy eating workshop where the group were able to talk about healthy foods and share tips, followed by live cook a longs throughout the week, which were thoroughly enjoyed. Nico and Morgan had prepared simple but colourful recipe cards and shared these in advance so all knew the ingredients they needed. Morgan shared his screen so all could see him demonstrating the step by step instructions, participants could ask questions along the way and show what they were doing.
It was wonderful to see the range of events hosted and media shared throughout the week on Insight. Healthy Eating Week was that we were able to engage people who hadn’t taken part before.
Mike, who has been volunteering at our allotment over the past year, wanted to know more about healthy eating. Mike works alongside a member of our team, Kath who suggested that Mike try cooking along with one of the sessions. In this session, participants used a range of herbs to make a delicious mexican salad.
Mike picked his herbs while at our allotment and his support team helped him prepare his kitchen and his laptop to be able to take part. Mike thoroughly enjoyed taking part, expressing how nice it was cooking along with friends. He even asked Kath “Are you sure this is healthy because it tastes so good?!”
