We are so pleased to announce that we are continuing our incredible Secret Garden project for another 18 months thanks to funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
Using money raised by National Lottery players, The National Lottery Heritage Fund supports projects that connect people and communities with the UK’s heritage. The Secret Garden project is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
Thanks to National Lottery players, we have been able to keep supporting individuals to care for Ysgubor Fawr cottage garden at Saint Fagans National Museum of History.
This next phase of the project will see volunteers further develop the garden. We have plans to create heritage planting beds and grow herbs, plants and vegetables. All things that have historically been used for cooking, cleaning and medicinal purposes.
Our volunteer gardeners will also be encouraging biodiversity in the garden. We look to do this by increasing the variety of plants and laying hedges to create more wildlife habitats.
On the heritage side, our volunteers will continue to research the history of The Secret Garden, the cottage and its inhabitants.
They will also be delving further into the history of the Roper family. The Secret Garden volunteers will paint a picture of life on the Plymouth Estate in the early 1900s.
Our volunteers will be creating a series of accessible resources, planning an event to share their findings, and really bring the history of the garden to life.
We are so excited for this next phase of the project. Thank you to National Lottery players for making it all possible!
