Beyond Barriers

Innovate Trust and SVC have been running a volunteer Befriender scheme within the homes of people with learning disabilities since 2018.

More recently, Innovate and SVC have received funding from the WCVA’s Strategic Grant Fund to carry out consultation to better understand the value of the project and explore how we can open up volunteering in the sector.

Beyond Barriers will involve consulting with individuals with learning disabilities, volunteers and support teams who have been involved in our Befriender scheme.

We will be carrying out surveys and interviews everyone who has taken ort to better understand how the Befriender project has helped everyone involved.

We will also be producing a set of recommendations to share our findings and with the aim of removing barriers to volunteering in supported living settings.
