My story Natalie

my story natalie

When I was a little girl, I lived in Bryn Ifor. I went to Ysgol Pen Y Bont in Bridgend, I loved it. I used to do gardening, woodwork, and swimming – there was a pool in the school. My favourite lesson was games, running round the pitch. I loved sports day! My mum learned to ride a bike there.

I also went to Park Lane School in Aberdare. I made wicker baskets and did photography – I can’t be without my camera. I made rugs on canvas, pulling wool through with hooks, and I was in school plays – I dressed up as a horse and a dragon!

I went to Treforest Day Centre after that where I did some sewing and worked with Eddie in the black bag room.

I have lived in my house for thirteen years since August 12th, 2006. I love living here in my own house, I have my own pet, Mogsy.

Here’s what I have learnt and done with Take Charge at Innovate Trust:

Brainstorming Coffee Morning
I went with Becky, Jane, and Janet to the office. They had a piece of paper, and we wrote what activities we wanted to do on it. I was really pleased that they wanted to know what I thought. I can get nervous doing new things, but it made me feel more confident about going out, I would do it again.

Heart Start Training
I learned about CPR, choking (I did it on a member of staff like a role play), bleeding and the recovery position. It was brilliant, I really enjoyed it. I have done first aid before in day centre, but I would feel more confident if I had to do first aid on somebody now.

Fire Buddy Training
I now have a finger rod to reach the ceilings for the smoke alarms – I used to use a mop! I learned about putting wires in the right places. We talked about fire blankets, fire alarms and what to do if there is a fire – get out quickly without panicking. I am going to be a volunteer fire buddy, testing the alarms in my house.

I am hoping to try some new activities in the future – I might give gardening at St Fagans a go.
