Are you looking for social groups for people with learning disabilities in Cardiff?

We are thrilled to recognise two incredible volunteers who make our weekly social group a vibrant and welcoming space: Emily and Becky!

Emily: The tech-savvy organiser of the group

Emily brings a unique combination of technical skills and genuine warmth to our social group for people with learning disabilities in Cardiff.

As a result, she impresses us with her research and communication skills, keeping everyone updated on upcoming events, locations, and times.

Emily is a key organiser of the WhatsApp group, which keeps all members aged 18 to 30 informed within our social groups. This shared information also helps our Participation Officer, Kath, ensuring everyone is on the same page.

Emily actively listens to the group’s preferences, scheduling activities like cinema trips, crazy golf, and the ever-popular pub nights with pool or skittles.

This ensures a fun and inclusive environment for our learning disability social groups in Cardiff. She also takes the time to chat with newcomers, making them feel comfortable and included.

When it comes to friendly competition, Emily’s numbers skills make her the regular skittles scorekeeper, keeping everyone playing fair and celebrating the winners!

Becky: The welcoming networker with a winning smile

Becky’s commitment to our learning disability social groups in Cardiff goes beyond her weekly volunteer role. In fact, everything she does revolves around community and inclusion.

A familiar face in Cardiff’s learning disability community, Becky’s involvement in groups like Cardiff People First provides a sense of safety and belonging for newcomers.

She thrives on introducing members to each other, fostering friendships within the group. Becky actively promotes our social events, encouraging wider participation and connections.

Becky also stays updated on the latest events using our Insight app, an accessible social media platform specifically designed for people with learning disabilities, ensuring everyone has access to information and activities within our social groups.

As the main contact for members over 30, Becky plays a crucial role in building confidence and making connections. The group often meets at the Claude pub, where the supportive and encouraging bar team consistently praise Becky’s dedication.

This positive atmosphere extends to the Moon Club nights, a monthly event in one of Cardiff’s coolest hotspots.

We are also incredibly proud to share that Becky’s dedication extends far beyond our social group for people with learning disabilities in Cardiff.

Becky recently received an award in the Work and Education category for her work with Cheeky Pants, a sustainable period wear company. This recognition is a testament to her unwavering commitment to making a positive impact in her community.

These volunteers give their time selflessly, and their contributions are invaluable. Many of our activities simply would not be possible without them, and the overall atmosphere would not be half as relaxed and fun.

We are truly grateful for Emily and Becky’s dedication and for giving up their time so readily. Together they have helped to create a space where people can connect, socialise, and have fun!

Thank you, Emily and Becky, for making a difference to so many people.
