your vote your voice. Register to vote at gov.uk/register-to-vote

Before you can vote you must join the Electoral Register.

It only takes a few minutes.

A person is pointing to a form that says “Register to vote”. The picture shows that you need to be on the voting list.

The register is a list of everyone who is allowed to vote.

If you do not register, you cannot vote.

Two people are sitting at a table looking at a laptop together. They are registering to vote online.

Contact your council online, by telephone or at a library to join the register.

A person is shown with their hand on their chin. Above them are two groups of people. One group has a green tick to show a group allowed to vote. The other group has a red cross to show a group not allowed to vote.

They use the register to count how many people did and did not vote.

They use it to see if some groups of people need extra help to learn about voting and how important it is.

A ballot box with a voting paper going into it is shown. A red circle with a line through it means stopping votes being stolen.

The electoral register also helps to stop people trying to steal other people’s votes.

Once you are on the register you do not need to do it again unless you move house or change your name.
