Following their successful research events in the summer of 2024, the Secret Garden History Group are back with an exciting new project!
This time, they are looking into the history of the St Fagans community to create two accessible historical trails for everyone to enjoy.
The trails will go live at a showcase event in the Atrium at St Fagans Museum in March 2026 and will contain information and research about the St Fagans community during the 1900’s.
What have they been up to?
Planning: The group have been part of a number of planning sessions which have involved deciding on a project from the very start, to planning and preparing the delivery of the historical trails they are creating.
Research: The group have delved into St Fagans history, looking at the community as a whole during the 1900’s, looking at maps, pictures and audio recordings in order to create a picture of history. The aim of this project is to re-create stories of the past that will give people of all ages and backgrounds the opportunity to experience.
Partnerships: To enrich their research, the group have been working closely with various partners. They have delved into historical books, journals, and photographs with curators at St Fagans Museum.
They are also collaborating with Archifau Morgannwg, where they have gained access to historical census records, maps, and family archives to gather information for their project.
Initiative and Creativity: The Secret Garden History Group have always enjoyed bringing new and creative ideas to their projects. The group are currently exploring different ways to produce their research, and hope to deliver their information in way that is accessible to all.
They have started using GoPro cameras to film each planned route. It is the hope that this will open the trails up to those unable to physically attend, those who live away, or those who would prefer to see what was involved beforehand.
Keep an eye on this space for more updates from the Secret Garden History Group, as they continue their journey to unearth the rich history of St Fagans!
